The newest video game consoles are the premier way to play games nowadays, and while it would be nice to have all of them, the cost prevents most people from owning more than one or two. Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and the Wii are all available for purchase and are all exceptionally unique.
The Xbox 360 was developed by Microsoft and is the successor of the Xbox. Not much changed with the controls for this next generation console, but the graphics and sound capabilities increased substantially.
Owners of the Xbox 360 can also use a service known as Xbox Live. The primary purpose of the service is to enable widespread multiplayer capabilities. In addition, players can download a large amount of content.
Although the Xbox 360 is a graphics powerhouse, it is actually less powerful than the Playstation 3. The PS3 uses an internal Blu-ray system for games as well as movies.
Like the Xbox 360, the PS3 has an online gaming facility known as the Playstation Network. However, Xbox Live had existed with the original Xbox as well, but the Playstation Network debuted with the PS3. Connecting to this online service allows many of the same capabilities as Xbox Live.
Both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 have classic controllers that do not differ so much from predecessors. The Nintendo Wii is completely different from any previous gaming system. It uses a controller that functions via motion, so there are fewer buttons than with the 360 or PS3.
The Wii is also more family oriented, as Nintendo has long been known to release a wide variety of family-friendly games. That is not to say there are not more adult titles available, but the general theme of the console definitely sways towards a family setting.
Deciding on exactly what console to get can be difficult, but after analyzing the costs and benefits of each option, most people can come to a relatively sound decision. Others decide that they like everything and invest over a thousand dollars to get every system.
