I purchased this TV in the late 2008 and have found it to be an a really great buy.
A couple reviews said that the TV has issues while the black shades are varying. I looked at this in the store with great details and have used it for a month and I have’t noticed that at all. This is a extremely sharp TV with superior colors and deep black tones. This LCD TV is a lot better than the previous TV W model.
Here is why you should get this LCD TV. It has a very perfect image in digital broadcast and does a flawless job in SD transmission better than some other tv sets I have seen. For that it’s respossible a great technology from Sony named DSP which is essentially noise reduction technology. Sony of course knows Blu-ray because they invented it, they know what color tones should look like I mean they hold a movie studio, the tv menus are actually simple to use, it has its own TV guide and it has capability for future expansion.
Picture quality is pretty near Samsung in HD. I looked at both TVs side by side. Samsung has a slight edge on clarity in SD. Samsung is more shiny, Sony is a matte cover but darks on Samsung are pretty good because of the glossy screen. While testing with a Blu-ray disc,Sony has a bit more details. No fade from white to dark problems on Sony as some reviews has mentioned. Colors are pleasant and bright as Sony Bravia two engine is outstanding, maybe even better than XBR engine.I’ve found that the Z series may be better but there isn’t 52 inche models
Tv menus on Samsungs are created for experts with a lots of tweeks, but actually it’s unclear for average user. If you doubt that, download the user manual for the Samsung LN52A650 and for Sony KDL524100 and see for yourself. If you are technical person, go for the LN52A650. If you don’t like to get lost in menus, but you want an excellent image, go with the Sony. Ths Sony TV is very simple to use, but also it automatically finds digital channels and is like you get also a built in cable box.
The Sony tv Set doesn’t have the Ethernet connector and built in weather like the series 6 from Samsung, but it does have the built in TV guide and future expansion. But, if you want internet connection in your TV, you are better off connecting an external device. The TV guide option in this tv is great and the Sony Bravia Sync is great especially if you are using a Sony DVD converter for 1080p. Picture in Picture technology is outstanding as well because you are able to view picture from HDMI while viewing cable TV.
For me preferred thing on Sony KDL52W4100 is the on/off button on the top side as this is keeping children from turning off televison. Also a good thing is the remote on the Sony as it is really simple to operate.
So, if you like the a super clean image, easy to use LCD TV with features that makes regular TV viewing smooth and easy. This Sony KDL52W4100 is excellent choice.
