Recently, the console war between , Sony, and Nintendo has escalated, and it’s all thanks to the . The original was designed to compete directly with Sony’s highly popular Playstation 3 and the Nintendo GameCube, recently emerging in the consumer’s awareness. With the ’s launch, the console war climbed to new levels of competition, though it can be said that the was the clear winner for a full year after its release.

Sony and Nintendo had no intention of simply surrendering the field, and quickly released their own seventh generation consoles, the Playstation 3 and the Nintendo Wii. This time, gamers had more choices and it was harder to pick between the three since each console offered its own unique strengths and weaknesses. To make it easier on the consumer, this is a brief comparison between the and its competition.

When it comes to games, the is the clear and obvious winner with a library of nearly a thousand games. The also has the highest number of exclusive titles even though the Playstaion 3 offers more exclusive franchises. Add to that the sheer number of positive reviews given the titles by consumers and critics, who point out the noticeable similarities between many of the Playstation 3 games and those offered by the .

The Wii has taken a slightly different path when considering what titles to offer, and focuses its orientation on games the whole family can enjoy, from children to adults. There is less violence, less murder and gore with the Wii than one will find in the . Even so, while there are fewer comparisons when looking at the available games, there are still a few that share similarities with the . For quality of graphics, the and Playstation 3 have very close competition that a draw must be declared. Some quarters, however, will insist that the Playstation 3 possesses more intense visual and audio components than but it will depend on what your definition of good graphics is.

Unfortunately for the Wii, it cannot compete with either the or the Playstation 3 where graphics are concerned. The Nintendo-made console simply does not appear to focus in this area. So, if you want excellent graphics and superior audio, then either the box 360 or the Playstation 3 are the choices for you. Note that the Playstation 4 offers Blu-ray support, which the does not.

For the quality of the controls, the Wii has a very good fighting chance with its motion controller that mimics the movement of the user sand buttons to push and bats to swing. However, it can be at a disadvantage with the because of the greater availability of options with either a wireless or wired controller.

In the end, the is more versatile, and even now, years after its initial release, it continues to be the leading game console in the industry. However, this doesn’t mean the war is over. Far from it. It’s beginning all over again with eighth generation consoles already on the way. But, for now, the rules the field, and will continue to be a strong contender.
